Human crisis happens within a context. The contexts we live in are a complex balance of our personal beliefs, our emotions, our body and our relationships. But our personal context lives, grows and dies within a wider complex balance of thought, emotion, the economy, the earth & its ecology, our family history and other cultures on our planet.
Much human thought and action is based on the idea that we can know the 'mind of God'. We have believed that we can control the complex web of life in our favour. Crisis is, and always has been, an opportunity for change and learning. But in western cultures we try and isolate ourselves from pain and change with: anaesthetics, insurance policies, prisons, walls, security systems, drugs, border police, institutions, plastic surgery and so on.
These attempts to control or separate ourselves from the pains of life usually displace the crisis: some having the benefits of this control and others suffering the pains. And indeed every day, trying to control our pains, we eliminate elements of this complexity (plants, animals, species, earth resources, cultures, languages, …). Our global ecology, economy, demography and relationships are now being stretched to their limits.
We simple humans do not know how to solve this crisis. Our priests, politicians, economists, industrialists and other so called authorities are as lost as most of the rest of us. We cannot know the depth of complexity involved in this global dynamic balance. We need to ask for help from greater spiritual authorities.
This is Dancing in the Now. Only by moving beyond our comfort zone in the Now to fully feel the pains of our crisis we begin to wale up and feel again. In this way we receive guidance on how to move and act. It cannot be found through thinking and planning.
I am Norman Duncan. I accompany people with love in a healing process, using dance, shamanic ritual, Aikido and other tools to develop awareness and wholeness. In taking ourselves to, and accepting responsibility for, our own limits or crisis, the greater wisdom can give us an image, feeling or nudge relating to the here and now. Aware of my arrogance, I hope this can be a humble place. I have no truth to be applied to all.
